Embedding YouTube Videos

One very simple way to add a video to your site is to upload the video to YouTube, and then embed it in your site.

There are two major benefits to this:

  • You don't have to worry about browser compatibility with different video types (Windows format vs. Mac format vs. Smartphones/Smart Devices) This ensures your video will be viewed by all!
  • You not only expose your video to your own fan base, but to YouTube's vast international audience. YouTube is one of the most popular websites in the world. Never a bad thing!

So, the first thing you'll need to do is get your video uploaded to YouTube. I'll let YouTube help you with that. You can check out their tutorial section here.

Grab the Code

Locate the video which you have uploaded to YouTube. It's important to simply search for the video without logging into a Youtube account (if you have one) for the purposes of this document; simply search for the video, and view it like a normal visitor. Your first step is to click on the "Share" link right below the video, as shown below.

You'll then want to click on the "Embed" link that appears in the "Share" menu:

Next, copy the embed code from the box as shown below.

From here, you will need to save that code, and set it aside for later. Now you need to login to your website dashboard, and navigate to the place where you want the video to go. In our example we are going to place it on the home page.

On your page where you want to place the video, click the "HTML" button from the editor toolbar, as shown below.

Next, paste your code into the box that shows up called "HTML Source Editor". Once done, click "Update".

Next, you will notice a tan box that shows up in the preview. This is how youtube videos display in the preview box. If you see this, you know you pasted the code correctly. Click "Update" at the bottom of the page to publish your changes.

Finally, click "View Site" to check and make sure everything looks right, and you are done! Your video should display something like the example below.
